My Moodboards!

Here are the mood boards I produced for my team presentation I was looking at the trends for our theme.

Romance

I started looking for Romance fashion images as soon as we had our first meeting as I had the idea in my head and I knew the kind of images we all were imagining!

With out Romance theme we had the idea of trying to find images to convey the idea of falling and being in love so I started looking out for very feminine fashion, soft sheer fabrics and soft pastel colours to reflect that naïve innocence.

Valentino’s collection was very in sync with all the fabrics, colours and detail and reflected the romance theme really well using lots of soft tones such as nude, gold, rose, lavender and gray. They said in the review of the show that ‘they wanted to tell a new fairy tale’.

The more designers I started looking at I found more exciting, inspiring images.

For example Victor & Rolf s collection is a very exaggerated romance style fashion and some of the colours are quite strong but still the details they’ve used such as big ruffles and huge pleats to create amazing shapes that are really inspiring.

The fabrics I thought would reflect the theme best were lots of soft fabrics that we could create lots of amazing ruffles such as organza, silk, satin and tulles.

Also the main colours I thought worked best were the nudes, lilacs, gray’s and peachy pinks.

Grunge

When I started looking at the grungier side of romance I had to look harder as the all the new collections are for spring so there weren’t so many collections using the harsh dark colours and themes.

There were certain designers that always seem to have querky sort of designs that I checked out and in a lot of ways different collections related to our theme. Those designers were Rodarte, Alexander Mqueen and Gareth Pugh.

Rodartes theme was really cool as it stated that it was to show that someone could be scared but still look beautiful and the way they conveyed that was by ruining lots of fabrics this kind of relates to our theme as the Romance side of the theme is going to seem really beautiful with the colours and fabrics and the grunge side is going to be the opposite and we need to show that by manipulating all the fabrics.

For the grungier side of romance we were trying to find images to reflect ‘lost darkness’ the feeling of falling out of love when you feel alone and your not quite thinking straight. I looked for longer silohettes and bigger shapes to give the feeling of carrying all those memories with you that you just cant seem to let go and rebellious sort of fashion through colour and fabric.

I think the best colours to convey this sort of theme were the deep reds and purples to add some sharpness and colour and the obvious black and grays to give that sense of darkness.

The fabrics I thought would best reflect this grungier romance were thick wools & woven’s to give that heavy effect, leather, velvet and lace.

Lessons with Jamie on Illustrator!

In our second session the beginning of our lesson we were given the task to choose a trainer and Jamie showed us how we could draw the shapes using the pen tool to create the silohette of the trainer he showed us lots of tricks to get the smoothest lines by using tools to even out the curves and using different sizes for the lines to get the most accurate shapes.
When we had the silohette of our trainer we then played around with the colour rise to get different colour ways for our trainer! This was really fun and above is an image of two of my colour ways!

This image is from our third session with Jamie. We were given a task at the start of the lesson using an image that Jamie gave us of a shirt pieces. Using the pen tool we had to draw the pieces and then put them together ourselves making sure the right shapes were in the right places. We used the object tool to arrange the shapes in the correct order and then we used the swatches tool to draw the stitch lines on the shirt! This was a really good exercise to get use to drawing the shapes for when we want to draw garments for our own trend books!

Back to college!

Its our second week back and Im still trying to take everything in! Over summer we were set a jacket project and we bascially had to research current and future trends, fabrics and colours, customer profile and retail and online trends!
When we arrived back to college we were briefed on our new project and put into groups! I am with two deisgners and two other promoters so we are going to be working on this jacket project all together!
Our project is based on the theme 'Traces' which is to do with personal and collective memorys so it is quite a broad theme which is great as theres alot we can do with the theme and take it in lots of directions!
The brief has been created by fashion awareness Direct which has been incorporated into our curriculum and gives us the oppourtunity to enter the 2010 fad competetion, however only three groups can be enetered into the competition.
We have been given the outcomes that are expected from the brief so basically me an my group our just tryin to arrange regular meetings to start with so we can balance out the work load evenly and to make sure everyone knows what they are doing in the team! We have a few ideas already which is good so we are all trying to get some research to take to our next meeting which is tomorow!
