My magazine layout...

I used Wonderland magazine to inspire the layout of my shoot. I thought Wonderland would be a cool magazine to use as there is a lot of crazy fashion that is featured so it was a magazine that i could kind of see my photos in, as I have taken inspiration from the past using pierrots but made the look current. I like how Wonderlands layouts worked as they are quite basic, but very clear, the magazine uses a lot of black and white so that was the main theme for my layout and i added a splash of colour.

Pierrot Dolls!

Over christmas we were set a task to come up with a research file for a magazine shoot based on a futuristic look. The theme originally was going to be based on a historical look so I thought it would be cool to look at something from the past and give it a futuristic touch.
I knew I wanted to kind of experiment with makeup too as thats always a really strong feature for a photo shoot I think so began starting to look at clown/doll like themes.
I decided to base my shoot on Pierrot dolls as I have quite a strong memory of them from my childhood so I thought it would be interesting to go back and research them! I also looked at designers collections that were clown/doll like to see how they had presented their themes.
Here are some of the pictures that gave me some inspiration...

New Term New Proj!

The brief I have chosen is.. Recession Reactionary!

Whats it about?

Looking at retail trends, market research and consumer reaction to the current recession analyse and predict which direction we are heading towards next?

Research catalogues, brochures, look books and campaigns; companies will always need magazines to help them display their product to its full advantage. Fashion magazines are a valuable marketing tool for all designers, labels and brands. They are part of the main advertising strategy for any growing or successful label and the creativity used to record and display their visual information, which is paramount to any successful advertising campaign.

Brief: Recession Reactionary Images

You should create an inspiring 4 – 6 page fashion editorial for a magazine of your choice that will become part of your own promoters portfolio. It can include interviews with up and coming designers, product features (fashion related), brand advertising, a styled photo shoot etc.

Research and collect images.

You are encouraged to look at all areas to inform your story idea for the magazine and look for inspiration from all aspects of life to help build and create your story. Use this collection to develop and inspire narrative and concept, and to help invent an original approach to creating your magazine editorial. Try not to use imagery from the Internet or magazines unless legitimately cited for research purposes.

My main interest really is fashion styling so I originally was drawn to the iconic designer brief where you complete a photo shoot, however I felt like I wanted to produce more for my professional project and really push myself so I chose a brief that I wouldn’t normally pick because it didn’t really appeal to me but as the briefs are so open I am going to interpret it in my own way and I am excited to research something new! Also from my experience in previous projects it’s clear that my strengths lie in styling and computer based work as I really enjoy working on the computer and feel like I still want to improve on lots of my skills.

Final Crit

Here is a picture from our final crit for our Jacket project. Amelias jacket is on the right and Tanyas jacket is on the left! Our crit was first so we were pretty nervous but it all went really well! We presented ours as a mini catwalk show, the promoters firstly spoke about our trend books and the designers then went on to show their jackets and talk about how we came up for the themes for them.
