What have i become good at this year?

I can safely say that the strengths i've really improved on in my 2nd year so far are my computer skills with using illustrator and indesign. We had to complete a trend book for our last project and that really gave me the chance to practice using both the programmes. I spent a lot of time using the programmes to develop my trend book and i really enjoyed working on there and when my trend book was complete it was a really nice feeling to look through it and think that i created all those pages! Now that i know I have those skills it's going to help me majorly with my proffesional project because i am creating a look book/ broshure for my final outcome. I am going to be using indesign to create my book and using the computer skills I have learnt to put it together and hope fully it will be better than my last book as I can improve on the skills i have even more!

A learning experience that went wrong!

One main thing i have learnt so far after being on my course is not to rush anything if you want to achieve something it's best to take your time and do it right! Sometimes i feel like i want to rush things to get them done but that's not always the best way because you spend more time on things in the end! A learning experience that went wrong from last year that I always remember is with our sports project! I went and chose my fabric too soon before anyone had even seen my designs! The problem i then faced is that I had to create three toiles before creating my final garment because the fabric i chose did not have enough stretch in it for my design so I then had to make lots of amendmants as i still wanted to use the fabric i had bought as id spent alot of money on it! I got there in the end.. but I really wished I had checked what fabric would have been best to use!

Right now I am in my second year at University!

How you got here? (placement)

I've got here by sticking my education out since school because i feel like if i don't do it now i don't think I would want to get back into education and i don't want just any job i want to do something I love and enjoy so I think it's worth it! I have done extra work placements alongside my education too such as working for Instyle magazine and i got to make some great contacts there that will hopefully be useful in the future!

How will you approach this year?

For the rest of this year we only have six weeks left of the course so Im going to work hard on my proffesional project and spend the summer hopefully completing more work placements to boost up my cirriculum vitae.

Where you want to go next, and how you might 'package' yourself?

Next year I am going to complete the third year as I think I should get as much out of the course as I possibly can to set myself apart from all the other fashion students going for similar jobs! I am not 100% where I want to go and thats another reason why I am going to stay on and try and get some more experience in other fields of fashion. I am thinking I would like to work for a magazine. I would like to package myself as someone who has lots of different skills in all areas of fashion even though my strongest area is styling I also like photography, writing and I can use all the adobe software and at the same time im quite a creative person so i want that to come across in my portfolio in different types of work.

Where it might take you

Eventually i would love to work for myself and have my own fashion business so hopefully I will get lots of great experience working for other companies and one day open my own business.

Who/ what might influence your choices now and in the future.

Where you live, who you associate with, places you go and life in general, I think a lot can influence my choices such as who you meet and what contacts you make that can help you in the future! I don't want to determine my future too much because im open to change.. so if something is going to change my life completely I would let it!
